Compression Molding Process

Plastic and plastic products form a significant portion of all manufacturing. There are many types of plastics and manufacturing methods using unique plastic characteristics. Our compression molding operation is a unique process that combines the cost advantage of patented recycling technology with the design freedoms and strengths of compression molding.

Process Overview

Our compression molding operation begins with the collection of scrap plastic.  Our patented technology enables us to use plastics that are traditionally “un-recyclable”.  This is because our process can utilize thermo-sets as well as thermo-plastics and contaminated or commingled waste streams do not have to be separated or cleaned.  Once the scrap plastic has been ground into ¼” size particulates, it is formulated to achieve desired product characteristics.  The material is then processed with patented recycling equipment and ejected in “loafs” of malleable, warm plastic.  These loafs are then placed inside a mold and, using a hydraulic press, the material is squeezed into the desired shape.  The plastic is chilled while inside the mold and a completed part is then ejected.

Design Advantages

Compression molding offers many design advantages over other molding processes. Because the plastic is very inexpensive, heavy, thick, robust, and reinforced parts can be manufactured very economically.  This allows the designer to build structural products previously economically infeasible.  In addition, our formulation of recycled materials can achieve a wide range of material properties.  Our 8 hydraulic press, ranging in size from 50 to 750 tons with bed sizes up to 70” x 120”, allows us to produce a variety of products in all shapes and sizes.

Cost Advantages

Pound for pound, there is no other plastic process that can use less expensive materials.  This makes our compression molding operation especially cost effective for larger products.  Because we are using material with little or no market value, we can produce a higher quality product for less.  Fast cycle times and the ability to run multiple presses simultaneously completes our cost advantage.  Contact us today and let’s get started with your compression molded project!
